Freeze-Dried Raw Feeding Guide

You can count on our numbers.

An honest, simple diet is what Hound stands for. That means locally sourced meat and a selection of whole raw cuts, each freeze-dried at its freshest and tastiest for your dog. Clean. Instinctive. Natural.

Knowing how much to feed is equally simple with our handy calculator. First, choose whether you’re adding just a little raw meat to the daily feeding routine (a Treat/Topper), or a heartier Meal Mixer. Then, enter your dog’s key stats and preferred protein to tally up their daily allowance.

Hound Feeding Calculator

A note before beginning:

Hound freeze-dried meat cuts are not a replacement for your dog’s complete and balanced diet. Rather, they enhance daily meals with a premium protein boost.

If choosing a Treat or Topper, the calculator will generate an allowance that reflects 10% of your dog’s required daily calories. For a Meal Mixer, it will generate an allowance that reflects 20% of required daily calories. Be sure to adjust your dog’s usual daily food servings accordingly.

Each cut of meat varies in energy-density and the calculator accounts for this variation.

Dr Heidi Ward-McGrath

A vet’s viewpoint: Why feeding fresh matters

"Fresh food makes magic happen in the gut. Most dogs that have been fed the same thing their whole lives have low microbiome diversity—sometimes just 10% of what it should be. When you introduce fresh foods, even in small amounts, you're giving your dog's gut bacteria room to diversify. And diversification is where you will see real health benefits.

Similar to humans, a diverse microbiome in dogs means better immune regulation, healthier skin, and fewer allergies. More importantly, owners who feed fresh, report noticing almost immediately that their dog seems happier."
