Feeding Guide

Feed as a treat (max 10% of daily calories). Portion control is important with an energy-dense treat, so use our allowance guide to remove the guesswork and check what’s appropriate for your dog. Adjust portions to maintain ideal body condition.

This meat is not intended for human consumption.

How to Feed

Hound Taste Tester pieces can be served straight from the pack or broken into smaller bites for training or meal toppers. For small breeds, older dogs, or those with sensitive teeth, you can soften in water before serving.

When introducing, start slow. Offer a small portion for a few days and keep an eye on how your dog responds. If all looks good, you can gradually increase. As always, supervise while feeding and have a bowl of fresh water for your four-legged friend.

Understanding activity levels

Treat allowances are guided by a dog’s weight and their activity level. The activity levels referred to in the Hound treat allowance guide are defined as follows:

  •  Low activity typically means one short, flat walk (20 -30 minutes) per day. The dog is mostly indoors or resting
  • Moderate activity typically means 30-45 minutes of total daily movement (2 x brisk walks, off-lead play or mild hills). The dog will be noticeably panting.
  • High activity typically means vigorous exercise for 60 minutes or more (running, agility, farm or working dogs)

For high activity dogs, use the Moderate activity serving size and increase by 25% if the dog has a sustained workload.

Storage

Freeze-drying makes meat safe and shelf-stable at room temperature. Freeze-dried meat absorbs moisture from the air – after opening, store in a sealed container or bag in a cool, dry place. Use rehydrated portions within 24 hours.
